I am.
Searching for
a new word for
God.
One that fits this
shifted conception
That tells a story
of grace
and
magic
WAY bigger than
our ‘good’ behavior
or ‘right’ ideas
or privileged positions
could conjur.
Expanding
to the farthest reaches.
As big as the Universe
can hold.
Yet present
in the smallest details
of a butterfly wing.
One that holds space
for The Mystery
which is still
so totally
intact
while honoring
the many ways
we are tirelessly working
to unravel it.
The inclusion of
Science (!)
as a pathway
with signposts
leading to
More Truth.
One that honors the
Athiest
for her rational, humble
uncertainty,
and the Believer,
for his beautiful
risk of faith
in the unknown
possibilities.
One that
emulsifies
science and spirituality
and purifies them both
of their Dogma.
Selah.
One that
I can pray to
and express
my overflowing
gratitude.
Admit my fears
and failings to
without feeling
disconnected from
self-responsibility.
I am…
searching for
a new word for
God.
One that
is all encompassing
and gives account
for the
enigmatic joy
of a mountain vista.
The intoxication of
being held by
your lover
or the sound of
a baby’s laughter.
The cruelty and
suffering
permeating our experience
of Life on Earth,
the heart of darkness
that keeps on beating
without explanation
or intervention
to which we must
adapt
and respond
and search madly
and persistently
for beauty and meaning
if we are going to
keep breathing here.
I…
am searching
for a word
for the god
I find
everywhere
and in everything.
Undefinable.
The Whole
of which I am
a part.
I am.

Searching.
